The Tahoma Indian Center is excited to partner with the Grand Cinema on Sovereign Cinema—a new film series centering Indigenous stories of reclamation, resistance, and resilience. To kick off the series, we’re bringing back a Tacoma Film Festival favorite, FISH WAR.
When the state of Washington started arresting Indigenous tribal fishers, it was a declaration of war. Scores of legal battles culminated in a landmark Supreme Court case that was meant to put an end to the violent Fish Wars. Fifty years later, the fight for salmon continues.
FISH WAR screens on January 6 at 1:45pm and 7pm.
Join us in the Lounge after the 7pm screening for a post-film book signing and meet and greet with film subject and Puyallup activist Ramona Bennett. Copies will be available for purchase, and complimentary traditional medicine from Rose Island Farm and desserts from Hawakstup will be provided.
The Tahoma Indian Center has a limited number of complimentary tickets available for community members for the 7pm showtime.
Please email admin@tahomaindiancenter.org if you would like a ticket.
Tickets can be purchased HERE.
